about
This is a road song. It started with a quote from another musician who kept saying, 'You've got to enjoy the journey', which is quite true, but at the time, it never seemed to be leading anywhere. Then Tim and I went on our first road trip up to the far North and over the highest mountain pass in Britain that can be driven over, which was quite scary and had to be included in the song. We didn't have a camper van, but I was watching them go over the pass and glad we just did it in a smaller car.
lyrics
You say enjoy the journey but there's no room on your bike,
There's no room on your bike
I guess I'll have to hike....
You sail for the horizon but there's no room in your boat,
No room in your boat
Well I just hope I float....
Throw me out a tow rope
I can't catch up with you
Sometimes I think there's no hope
What else can I do?
You say you drive a fast car but you've got no room inside
Got no room inside
I'll have to hitch a ride.
This is the road to travel on the platform of your bus
Move on down inside
What will become of us?
Throw me out a tow rope
I can't catch up with you
Sometimes I think there's no hope
What else can I do?
We're driving through the mountains in your camper van
On the Bealach na Ba
You can prove that you're a man.
Single track with passing places up the mountain side
And down to Loch Kishorn
It's a roller coaster ride.
Throw me out a tow rope
I can't catch up with you
Sometimes I think there's no hope
What else can I do?
You created a diversion and went down another track
And I went off the rails
Are you ever coming back?
Don't want to go my own way 'cos I can't bear the load,
I can't bear the load
At the end of the road.
Throw me out a tow rope
I can't catch up with you
Sometimes I think there's no hope
What else can I do?
